201 OPD cruisers have latest technology in video cameras
The Omaha Police Department has another tool to keep the public safe. More than 100 cruisers now have the latest technology in video cameras.
Captain Scott Gray says the cameras also gather video evidence for internal and criminal investigations. The cameras come on every time the lights and siren are activated and there is an external microphone that allows officers to record conversations when they are out of view.
The cameras were mounted last summer but there was glitch in the system that has now been corrected.
